# BGpeel

> BGpeel is a background remover for Mac. It does the job people use remove.bg for, but the whole thing runs on your own computer: photos are never uploaded, there is no account and there are no credits. It is sold as a one-time purchase.

BGpeel is an independent product made by Ahmed Gagan. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by remove.bg.

## Facts

- What it does: removes the background from a photo and gives back a transparent PNG at the photo's full size, with its colour profile kept. The original file is never changed.
- Where it runs: entirely on the Mac. The only thing the app sends over the internet is the license key, to check it is valid. It keeps working offline for weeks.
- Speed: about a second for a typical photo. On large photos a detail pass for hair and fine edges adds a few seconds; it can be turned down or off in Settings.
- Subjects: people, pets, products and objects with a clear subject, including hair, fur, whiskers and spokes. It is weakest on glass, smoke, veils and scenes with no obvious subject.
- Tools: Erase and Restore brushes for fixing a result, background colour previews, batch processing of whole folders with Export All, copy, save and drag into other apps.
- Requirements: a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer) and macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Intel Macs are not supported. It uses about 2.5 GB of memory while working. The download is about 400 MB because the model is inside the app.
- Largest photo tested: 54 megapixels.
- Price: one-time purchase, no subscription, no per-image charges. $9.99 for the first 20 licenses, $14.99 for the next 10, then $19.99. Every 1.x update is included.
- License: one key works on up to three Macs at a time, and a Mac can be deactivated to move the license.
- There is no demo version of the app, and all sales are final. The gallery on the home page is unedited output so the quality can be judged before buying.
- Payments are handled by Dodo Payments. The license key is shown right after paying and is also sent by email.
- Support: support@ahmedgagan.in
